Top tips for taking care of the skin around your eyes

Top tips for taking care of the skin around your eyes

Regarding skincare, we must take extra care in supporting the skin surrounding our eyes.

This skin is thinner, more delicate than any other and works extra hard in blinking and showing emotions, thus making it more susceptible to signs of premature ageing.

Irrespective of your age, your eyes deserve all the love they can get, including taking care of the skin surrounding them.

Let's look at how.

  1. The skin surrounding our eyes
Is prone to dryness and wrinkles, and the reason for this is that the area lacks oil glands. To put back what it lacks, we need to moisturise. Do this by investing in an eye cream and serum to plump the moisture and a great pair of sunglasses to stop squinting.

  1. Ingredient information

Different concerns require different ingredients, and you must pick your product accordingly. For fine lines, choose a plump-up effect with ingredients such as Retinoids, Retinol, Vitamin A, and Peptides. Look to Arbutin, Kojic Acid, Vitamin C, Soy, Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid for dark circles. For puffiness, concentrate on getting better sleep and drinking more water and ingredients like Caffeine, Green Tea, Coffee Berry Polyphenols, Dipeptide-2 and Willow Herb. For more general concerns, give Vitamins A & C, Green Tea and Niacinamide a go.

  1. Gentle, please

When removing make-up and applying products – Remove make-up gently with a cotton pad by dragging it outward and apply products with your fingers by dabbing your eye area.

  1. Sunscreen is a must

Sun exposure is the biggest culprit to skin ageing and should be applied daily, irrespective of the weather. Don't forget the upper eyelid, and again, invest in sunglasses with UV protection.

  1. Look at your lifestyle

Get sufficient sleep, stay active, stop smoking and enjoy healthy foods. When we don't get enough sleep, it is evident in and around our eyes with lookers that are red, puffy and accompanied dark circles. Include potassium-rich foods in your diet and drink enough water.

Prevention is always better than cure; the sooner you start taking care of your eyes, the better their beauty's longevity. Do this by combining an eye skincare routine with a pair of SOEK® sunglasses that come standard with Premium UV400 (100% UVA/UVB) polarised lenses for superior clarity, colour and protection.
